HELLO AND WARMLY WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE, I’M SO GLAD YOU CAME TO VISIT!
My name is Merete Hov and I was born in 1964. I have lived most of my life in the northern part of Norway, but moved to the southern part some twenty years ago. I have been creating for as long as I can remember, and have been exploring several artistic techniques. For the most part I am self thought, but I have worked in a ceramic studio for about 6 years. Since 2018 I have had the great pleasure and joy to be one of Pamela Caughey’s students.
I need to create to feel alive, I am always searching for new ways to express what I want to share with the world.
I believe that as a person, I am most of all curious. I am exploring, I am playing, I am always searching for new ways to combine techniques and materials. I love to learn new techniques, to learn about new mediums. When I can feel that a painting is close to finished I can study it for hours before I make decisions as for where to go next and how to add or subtract through the final touches. But on the other hand I am also impatient, I want to test limits, want to test out the unexpected by asking myself: What if? I am excited by watching how colors interact on their own with one another. I am thrilled to investigate how aggressive scratches and gentle feather-like strokes in the same painting adds complexity to the final work, as it certainly do in life itself.
If I can achieve to express a certain emotional span within the same painting or object, without making it incoherent; and if my work by that can touch others, I will indeed very happy.
