Explore second round.Today I started the process of pushing these towards a higher key. I am very satisfied with the colors, texture and complexity in the underpainting now, so my next move is to try to simplify and to lighten this series. Comments are very appreciated =)
GOING HIGH KEY AND GOING ABSTRACT, WHICH I HAVE BEEN MISSING A LOT
Exploring, I mean really exploring this time. I decided in a blink of a second that I wanted to go high key, it has been many mid-tone and darker landscapes lately, I wanted to go light and I wanted to go abstract! So, this is today’s total transformation of yesterday’s exploration. Also attaching some closeups. I feel much better now doing something drastic, comments are much appreciated
This painting is still in explore stage, which means that I am taking risks, taking drastic steps, trying out ideas, am scratching, applying, subtracting while wet. Then sanding, and more layers, more sanding, scratching and so forth. I find this stage to be the most challenging of them all, when the mind must be open and quickly be responding to these changes, when I must dare to loose, to paint over what I loved, in order to achieve a more interesting expression further down the way.
Work under progress, acrylic and mixed media on panel
Latest and final play in dry medium and acrylics. Now ready for cw and oils, if I can manage to seal the most important marks so they don’t smear, I might be going directly to the clarify stage, I am actually starting to love them.
Exploring and playing some more. Subtracting, covering, adding, wondering, searching for who I am, and for what direction to take myself, and my paintings. Having fun while doing it, I think I’ll try to preserve some of the crayon marks and then proceed in cold wax and oils. So far it is only dry medium and acrylics.
Work under progress. Approximately 35 x 43 cm
